Midland businessman Kevin Sparks is the second candidate to launch a Republican primary challenge against State Sen. Kel Seliger (R–Amarillo) for next year’s election cycle.

In a statement released on social media Friday, Sparks announced his primary challenge to Seliger for Texas Senate District 31 next year. Sparks highlighted a few of the issues he wants to tackle on the campaign trail and called on West Texas to elect a senator who “will proudly defend our conservative values.”

“At a time when far-left activists seek to nationalize our elections, indoctrinate our kids with so-called critical race theory, and surrender our southern border to the drug cartels, the hard-working families of Senate District 31 deserve a state senator who will proudly defend our conservative values,” Sparks said.

Sparks joins Coahoma ISD Trustee Stormy Bradley in the 2022 Republican primary for Senate District 31. Seliger has not yet stated whether he will be seeking re-election.
