Texas Tech appears to offer several courses and programs steeped in what some describe as woke gender ideology.

This course work covers programs ranging from Women’s and Gender Studies to Diversity Studies, even as other universities jettisons such material, an investigation from The Dallas Express revealed.

DX reached out to the following Board of Regents of the Texas Tech System to inquire about these matters.

The board consists of the following members:

To the extent that the Regent’s companies are distinct public entities from one another, and to the degree that the regents are neither retired nor students, DX reached out to their various companies for comment on why their executives are supporting institutions with woke programs, especially as leftist ideology appears to be in retreat among Texas companies and academic institutions.

Tech’s woke programming most resembled the University of Houston‘s in its focus on gender ideology over a racial politics.

These findings follow a report from The Dallas Express that identified gender ideology in both the University of Houston’s job applications and law school applications. Job applications with the university listed “They/them/theirs, ze/hir/hirs, ze/zir/zirs, [and] prefer not to say” as pronouns options.

Similarly, the law school application for the university administered by the Law School Admissions Council had “Androgyne, Demigender, Female, Genderqueer or gender fluid, Male, Non-transgender man, Non-transgender woman, Prefer not to say, Questioning or unsure, Transgender man, [and] Transgender woman,” as options at some point in the recent past.

The legal tide appears to be turning against gender ideology in Texas. In January, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a press release excoriating any public program supporting the notion that there are more than two sexes. “The State of Texas recognizes only two sexes—male and female—and sex discrimination consists in treating a member of one sex less favorably than the other, absent some pertinent difference,” Abbott’s presser states.

“Others have sought to distort the guarantee that men and women must be treated equally in order to impose mandates concerning sexual orientation and gender identity. On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order, Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, rejecting similar efforts by the Biden-Harris Administration to distort commonsense notions of biological sex. As the Chief Executive Officer of the State, I direct you to follow state and federal law. All Texas agencies must ensure that agency rules, internal policies, employment practices, and other actions comply with the law and the biological reality that there are only two sexes—male and female,” the Governor’s release explains.
Similarly, DEI programs, which often have both a racial and gender focus, have suffered setbacks. Just after Abbott’s gender order, he issued GA 55, an Executive Order forbidding DEI policies and “curricula” in “all state agencies.”
