The federal government awarded a $2 million grant to Fort Worth Alliance Airport for noise mitigation efforts, including installing sound insulation for nearby residents.

“I am pleased to see Fort Worth Alliance Airport receive $2 million in grants for noise mitigation efforts. The funding will help install sound insulation for certain residences in @CityofFortWorth so that our community can enjoy more on-demand travel without inconvenient noise impact,” U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) said on Twitter.

According to its website, the Fort Worth Alliance Airport is the world’s first industrial airport. It opened in 1989 as a result of the partnership between Hillwood, the City of Fort Worth and the Federal Aviation Administration leading to “Alliance” being included in the airport’s name.

The airport now offers flight services transporting air cargo and projects for corporate and government aviation.

This new grant follows continuous efforts to help reduce noise pollution from the airport. In July of 2019, the airport received an $8 million grant from the federal government to reduce noise, the Star-Telegram reported. That grant included funding to help buy land surrounding the airport to create more of a buffer zone for noise.

“This significant investment in airport improvements in Texas will fund construction and rehabilitation projects that will help maintain high levels of safety in U.S. aviation,” then U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao said in a statement at the time.

The area around the airport has seen a rapid increase in residents as thousands of new homes were built in the area, according to the Star-Telegram. This increased the urgency for noise mitigation efforts.

The City of Fort Worth’s Business Equity Division is holding a virtual meeting Friday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m. for interested parties. The meeting will focus on opportunities related to all of the $26 million in construction projects currently underway at the airport, including efforts related to noise mitigation.
