President Joe Biden fired the architect of the U.S. Capitol on Monday over allegations that he abused his power and wasted taxpayer money.

Brett Blanton was terminated following calls from both Democrats and Republicans to dismiss him from his role overseeing maintenance and custodianship of the Capitol building and its grounds, CBS News reported.

Blanton received a letter informing him of his termination on Monday from Gautam Raghavan, assistant to the president and director of presidential personnel.

“President Biden did the right thing and heeded my call for action,” said Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), who serves on the House Administration Committee, according to CBS News.

Last week, Blanton testified before the House Administration Committee and confessed that he did not respond to the Capitol in person on January 6, 2021.

Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) said it was “outrageous” that Blanton was not present at the Capitol “while the rest of us were thinking about dying that day and how we were going to come out alive that day,” according to CBS News.

Blanton is also accused of wasting taxpayer funds and misusing government resources.

According to a report published by the Architect of the Capitol’s Office of Inspector General in October, Blanton allowed his family members to use three government-owned vehicles that were meant to be used by him for transportation to and from work.

The inspector general found that the cars were used for recreation by Blanton’s wife and adult daughter “on a regular basis.”

His daughter reportedly told investigators she would use the government vehicles to drive around her friends and boyfriend, calling it “free gas.”

The report also alleged a “significant amount of administrative, ethical and policy violations as well as evidence of criminal violations throughout the investigation” on the part of Blanton, saying that he “misled and provided false information to investigators on multiple occasions.”

“Blanton’s actions have violated every pillar the OIG operates under including theft, fraud, waste and abuse against not only the AOC but also the taxpayer,” the inspector general’s office said.

Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI), chairman of the House Administration Committee, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) both called for Blanton’s resignation.

“The Architect of the Capitol, Brett Blanton, no longer has my confidence to continue in his job,” McCarthy tweeted Monday. “He should resign or President Biden should remove him immediately.”

Blanton, however, has denied any allegations of unethical behavior.

“I wholeheartedly reject any assertion that I have engaged in unethical behavior during my service to this country while serving in this particular role,” he said during last week’s hearing, as reported by CNN. “Moreover, I have fully invested to ensure that I meet the responsibilities and the expectations of this role.”

Why are they asking for his resignation. Just fire him. And why does ONE man need THREE vehicles? He can only drive one at a time. More waste of taxpayer money.

It’s a good bet that he earned his money repairing the damage caused by tax-wasting Trump supporters that day!

Why is h called an architect? He’s a maintenance man. I’ll bet he’s never designed or built anything.
