Skippy recalled 9,353 cases of its peanut butter on Wednesday, equaling 161,692 pounds, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The decision came after Hormel Foods, the company’s owner, confessed there was a chance of stainless steel fragments mixed with the peanut butter.

“Skippy Foods, LLC, out of an abundance of caution and with an emphasis on the quality of its products, is issuing the recall to ensure that consumers are made aware of the issue,” said Hormel Foods on March 31. “The manufacturing facility’s internal detection systems identified the concern.”

The possibly contaminated products include Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein, Skippy Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread, and Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread.

“From our family to yours, we want you to know that we take the quality of our products very seriously and apologize to our fans for this situation,” Hormel said on their website.

The affected states of the recalled products are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

The impacted products can be found by checking the “best if used by” dates, and they include the following:

  • Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, 40 Ounces. Best used by: MAY0423 and MAY0523.
  • Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, Club 2/40 Ounces. Best used by: MAY0523.
  • Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, 16.3 Ounces MAY0623 and MAY0723.
  • Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein, 14 Ounces. Best used by: MAY1023.

A spokesperson for Hormel Foods told Newsweek that “No consumers have reached out with issues, and for the small quantity that may be impacted, we are offering a full refund. Consumers can call us at 1-866-475-4779.”

If you believe you may have purchased one or more of the recalled items, return them to the store where you bought them or contact Skippy Foods Consumer Engagement at 1(866) 475-4779. You may also visit www.peanutbutter.com if they need any further information or instructions.

In February of this year, Morgan Foods recalled 2,000 pounds of its chili because the product contained undeclared allergens and was misbranded.

Continental Mills also recalled more than one brand of pancake and waffle mix earlier this month. The company said in a statement that it discovered that the product was found to have fragments of a cable that workers used to clear the processing line. They sold these products in Walmart and Kroger stores.
