Six Flags Over Texas is celebrating its 60th Anniversary for the upcoming 2022-2023 season with a new look, new rides, and tastier treats!
Six Flags Over Texas has undergone many updates, including new rides, food, and attractions. The theme park is committed to continuing to evolve over the next few years. According to NBC News, Six Flags Over Texas added fresh paint to several park buildings and rejuvenated landscape designs to complement the park’s rides and attractions.
“We have some big ideas and big plans for the park. I think what you see visually is a testament to what we plan on continuing to do,” said Sharon Parker, the newly appointed general manager of Six Flags Over Texas. Parker is making Six Flags history as the first black woman to manage the park. She has been employed with the company for 15 years.
“My goal is just to make sure that I provide the support needed to help us move forward,” Parker told NBC.
One aspect of the park upgrades focuses on the ways you pay.
When visitors enter the park, they will notice that cashless entry, implemented during the pandemic, is now a permanent option.
Guests can securely purchase tickets, food, and other items using a debit card, credit card, or the Six Flags mobile app for smartphones. The app integrates Apple Pay or PayPal, allowing a convenient alternative for younger guests who may not have debit or credit cards.
Along with the re-up in payment processes, free wi-fi is now available throughout the park, making it easier to post your favorite Six Flag Over Texas posts to social media.
New food selections will also be offered throughout the park.
Patrick Desmond is taking over the role of director for food and beverages for all of the Six Flags theme parks. His 30 years of culinary experience have resulted in several new foods for guests, including calzones, pig wings, and fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Of course, Six Flags Over Texas will introduce new rides for the 2022-2023 season.
The AQUAMAN: Power Wave is a multi-launch water rollercoaster. The park’s fifteenth thrill ride will be a first-of-its-kind water coaster. Riders are launched backward and forward, straight up a colossal 148-foot tower before plunging more than 700 feet of track. The water coaster will send riders towards the ultimate massive splash after reaching a top speed of 63 mph.
The Cave ride was one of Six Flags Over Texas’ first attractions. For Six Flag’s 60th Anniversary, it has been rebranded as the Pirates of Speelunker Cave. The Cave ride made its debut in 1964, and in 1991 was rebranded as Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure. Now, the cutting-edge attraction will immerse guests in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt thwarted by resident Speelunkers. Riders will experience 17 brand-new scenes aboard their six-passenger boat, which will combine cinematic projection with immersive sets and animatronics.
Park officials removed the seats from the famous Texas SkyScreamer ride for an extreme flying experience. Riders lie face down on their stomachs while strapped into a swing that allows them to soar 400 feet in the air at 40 mph. Just be sure to stay away from the fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before trying it out.
“What better way to celebrate our park’s 60th anniversary than by announcing a brand-new attraction that pays homage to our past and launches us into the future,” said Six Flags Over Texas Park President Ron McKenzie.
Six Flags Over Texas is currently open on weekends and will transition to daily hours beginning the week of May 30.
