Olivella’s Pizza and Wine is expanding with an upcoming location set to open in Deep Ellum. The popular pizza restaurant currently has three locations in Dallas, with their latest edition ready to open this spring on Elm Street.

Olivella’s Pizza and Wine is best known for its Neapolitan and Roman style pizzas, including the Black Truffle made with truffle oil and mushrooms. Other specialties are the Dream which includes chicken and pancetta, and the Diavola, known for its jalapeños. The gourmet shop also offers antipastos, paninis, and pastas.

Olivella’s owner Charlie Green spoke with Dallas Culture Map about their latest expansion into Deep Ellum.

“We’d like to be open by April,” Green said. “It’s a second-generation space with a good layout, and what we’re doing is mostly cosmetic, so I’m feeling as optimistic as you can right now.”

Green was thrilled to find a spot for his new Olivela’s Pizza and Wine location in the former home once occupied by the Hide bar. He plans to serve the same menu as his other locations with the addition of a full bar with an array of cocktails.

“When I saw that space was available, I jumped on it,” Green shared. “The area is exploding. Obviously, that neighborhood has a few pizza places already, but it seems like there’s a variety and plenty of business – I’m excited about it.”

Green is thrilled about the spot and the city’s direction when it comes to restaurant offerings. The area has changed dramatically and has seen a promising increase in restaurants opening following the pandemic.

“Deep Ellum to me feels like it’s having a Renaissance,” he says. “It’s less biker bars and more like the East Village when it was transitioning away from the Lou Reed days. It’s become a more traditional commercial district with a wider appeal. There are also a ton more residents in the Deep Ellum and Farmers Market area.”
