An off-duty police officer from the Dallas Police Department was taken into custody on March 4 following an altercation outside a bar on Technology Boulevard in Dallas.
Around 2:30 a.m., off-duty police officer Aaron Gage Cagle, 28, was arrested near the Cowboys Red River bar in northwest Dallas. Cagle was charged with public intoxication and interfering with public duties, reported WFAA news.
Officers were attempting to diffuse a fight when off-duty police officer Cagle intruded on their efforts.
“Dallas police, get back,” yelled one officer when Cagle tried to make his way past the policeman, to which Cagle responded, shouting, “I am [the] police.”
According to authorities, Cagle had an “unsteady balance, slurred speech, and breath smelling of alcohol.”
After officers confirmed that he was a member of the police force, he was transported to the Dallas County Jail.
The arresting officer alerted Cagle’s sergeant, who then notified the chain of command.
Officer Cagle has been with the Dallas Police Department since 2017 but is now on administrative leave, awaiting an Internal Affairs Investigation.
