Knox Street in Dallas has been abuzz recently about the opening of Foxtrot, a Chicago-based all-day café.
The first Foxtrot opened in Chicago in 2014, starting with a delivery service offering half-hour or less delivery of food, wine, and beer. Deliverable items could include everything from humble favorites like Campbell’s soup to freshly braised meatballs or roasted salmon.
Foxtrot expanded with on-site bars that served coffee drinks, simple meals, and wine. Now, local menus vary as they take advantage of locally sourced products. Some of its cafés feature specialties such as bourbon, French, Italian and Spanish cheeses, or local ice cream.
Due to its innovative practices, Eater Chicago reports Foxtrot has expanded rapidly and raised $100 million from investment firms on the East and West coast. Now, with the total raised sitting at $160 million, Foxtrot is able to make expansion plans, and Dallas will be one of the lucky cities to reap the benefits.
With its opening slated for summer 2022, Foxtrot will replace the Yeti store on Knox Street, just across from the RH Furniture Gallery, which recently opened along with its upscale rooftop restaurant.
The anticipated appearance of Foxtrot will continue the transformation of Knox Street into a home for thriving businesses, including new retail outlets and some delicious restaurants.
Knox Street is reminiscent of a European neighborhood due to its walkability and vibrancy, making it a destination for people who want somewhere fun to meet. Recent developments on the street have begun turning it into a go-to spot for world-class dining.
While many such places are expensive, Foxtrot will suit more modest price points. It has a wide variety of offerings, making it more like a bodega than a traditional coffee shop, as customers can purchase everything from flowers to meals and liquor on-site.
However, the coffee should be superb, with locally brewed Oak Leaf Coffee available. The local menu on the website shows modestly priced sparkling wine, along with specialty coffee drinks and sweet treats. The infamous breakfast tacos are locally sourced using brisket from Pecan Lodge, and the cafe also boasts freshly made guacamole, hummus, salads, sandwiches, and healthy grain bowls.
Currently, there are two locations in the Dallas metro area – one on McKinney Avenue and another in University Park. These tend to cater to local college students and residents, and commuters. The current Foxtrot locations have plenty of light, tall ceilings, and white tiles, making them attractive and fresh places for customers to linger, though both pick-up and delivery are available.
Since the Chicago venue has received a capital infusion, it is planning to grow dramatically in the coming year in the Dallas area, Austin, and other cities outside of Texas. Foxtrot is currently looking to expand from eighteen to thirty locations overall.
