A family that purportedly went missing late last year while moving from New Orleans to Houston is suspected of being in Mexico.

Steysi Yanira David-Funez, 27, Ramon Ruiz Crisanto, 31, Jazzlyn Esther Ruiz-David, 4, and Dara Ismeray Ruiz-David, 1, planned to move from New Orleans to Houston in late 2023. At the time, they were expected to reach a Greyhound bus station in the city’s east end on November 30 to meet Ramon’s uncle.

However, the uncle told Steysi’s father that he never heard from the family when they arrived, despite Steysi reportedly texting her father, “Daddy, I’m here,” upon arriving at the Harrisburg Boulevard station in Houston.

Now, roughly a week after the New Orleans Police Department made public that the family was missing, there is speculation that the family may have traveled to Mexico.

KPRC 2 obtained the bus ticket that purports to show that the family did reach Houston. However, another ticket suggests they boarded another bus destined for McAllen before getting off at a stop in Monterrey, Mexico.

Even still, relatives have reportedly expressed skepticism over the notion that the family would have crossed into Mexico since they moved to the United States to work.

Corley Peel, a reporter with KPRC 2, spoke with Steysi’s sister, Stephany David, who told Peel the two sisters briefly lived south of the border before Steysi moved to New Orleans. She said she did not know why her sister would go back.

New Orleans police are still searching for the family. Anyone with information about the family’s purported disappearance is encouraged to call New Orleans Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060.
