It is no secret that the University of Texas is a top-tier institution. With over 170 award-winning major programs and a very selective admissions process, students from all over the world flock to the UT Austin campus and surrounding area. However, U.S. News and World Report recently ranked UT Austin as the top university in Texas. UT Austin is also the only university in Texas to break the top 100 schools featured in the list. The rankings are based on many factors, such as graduation rate, academic reputation and performance, and student resources.  

Out of 1,700 schools in over 90 countries, UT Austin earned a very respectable ranking at #43 in the world. In the United States, the school placed at #23. Although staying in the same place as last year in regards to international schools, UT jumped over ten spaces in the United States rankings, where it was previously at #38.

Possibly even more impressive is the public-school rankings, where UT Austin placed at #10. In the national rankings, the public University of Texas is pitted against prestigious private schools, such as Harvard and Stanford. For reference, the 2022 budget for Stanford is roughly $8.2 billion, while the budget for UT Austin is less than half, at $3.6 billion.  

The University of Texas features a plethora of schools, ranging from the McCombs School of Business to the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Its highest-ranked majors were arts and humanities at #24 nationwide, materials science at #25, mathematics at #25, and geosciences at #26. The university also features competitive Division 1 sports, including the famed Texas Longhorns football team. Off its 431-acre campus, the surrounding town is known for its concentration of quality live music and engaging nightlife, providing a fun atmosphere for attending students.
