University if North Texas at Dallas issued the following announcement on June 4

After serving an obligatory year as an affiliate member of the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference, the University of North Texas at Dallas was named a full member this week at the organization’s annual meeting.

After competing in men’s and women’s basketball, cross-country and track and field during the 2020-21 school year, the Trailblazers will now be eligible for post-season play and participate in a round-robin schedule of games against SAC members in 2021-22.

“With many of the Covid issues now behind us,” says Jack Allday, UNT Dallas Director of Athletics, “news of our full membership comes at a perfect time. Our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Trailblazers family couldn’t be more excited.”

During the University’s pandemic-plagued first season of intercollegiate competition, coach Josh Howard’s men’s team complied a 7-4 record while Rodney Belcher’s women finished at 2-8.

UNT-Dallas becomes the 12th member of the Sooner Athletic Conference. Others in the league are Texas Wesleyan, Southwest Assemblies of God University, Wayland Baptist, Oklahoma City University, Mid-American Christian University, Southwestern Christian University, John Brown, Langston, Central Christian College, and University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma.
