A Houston ISD teacher was arrested for allegedly sending nude pictures of himself via Instagram to two teenage girls before sexually assaulting one of them on campus.
Abdurahman Milani, 27, a math teacher at Marshall Middle School, allegedly began communicating with two 14-year-old female students on Instagram, offering one of the students “extra class credit” in return for sexual favors, reported KPRC 2.
School officials were reportedly told about the incident in May, which prompted an investigation, per ABC 13. The girl who was assaulted said that she and Milani engaged in sexual acts just days before investigators interviewed her.
Court records indicate that another student was also communicating with Milani on Instagram, alleging that the two exchanged sexually explicit photographs of each other during a game of truth or dare in April. Some of the pictures Milani allegedly sent included nude photos of him from the waist down touching his genitals, according to KHOU 11.
The student said she began to feel uncomfortable after Milani purportedly told her that she “needed to do a trick for him” while at school.
In a statement to KPRC 2, Houston ISD said:
“While we cannot comment on the charges filed or the ongoing investigation into this incident, we can affirm that the employee was placed on administrative leave and removed from our buildings immediately once an allegation was made. This employee has not had contact with students in any HISD facility since that date.
“We have sent an update to the school community, but the law prohibits us from commenting on the specific details of personnel matters. Generally, HISD practice when an employee is charged with offenses of this nature is to recommend termination by the board at the next meeting of the board.”
Those with loved ones at Marshall Middle School have since expressed concern about sending their children to the school.
“They’re excited to go, but it’s scary for them. This will be their first year and they’ve got to worry about teachers like that,” said Marylou Olveda, whose grandchildren just started at the school, per KPRC 2.
Milani is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child, two counts of having an improper relationship with a student while working as an educator, two counts of indecency with a child, and one count of online solicitation of a minor.
Relatedly, a number of similar incidents have been reported in North Texas, most recently in Jacksboro ISD, where a paraprofessional was arrested for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student — a distinct criminal offense in Texas.
