Sunnyvale ISD recently issued the following announcement.

Superintendent Doug Williams kicked off his term as President of the Texas Association of School Administrators earlier this week.

Mr. Williams’ role as president of TASA places SISD at the forefront of Texas public education not only in terms of advocacy for students and educators but for educational policies, as well.

“The election of Doug as president of TASA is a reflection of the admiration his fellow superintendents have for him across Texas,” Dr. Kevin Brown, Executive Director of TASA said. “He is an innovative, ethical, student-centered leader who not only runs an outstanding district but also has statewide influence at the Capitol. All of us at TASA are excited to have this champion for public education serve as our president. The 5.4 million children in Texas public schools will be the beneficiaries of his leadership.”

TASA is the professional association for Texas school superintendents and other administrators. TASA’s mission is to promote, provide and develop leaders who create and sustain student-centered schools and develop future-ready students.

Mr. Williams previously served the TASA Executive Committee as the Legislative Chair, Vice President and President-Elect. He is well-known around the state for being a strong advocate for Texas public schools and the mission for transformation in education. As a leader among the Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Network, and as a founding member of the Community Schools Transformation Alliance, he is committed to shifting the mindset in Texas public education from high-stakes testing to preparing students for today’s world.

“Sunnyvale ISD is fortunate to have Doug Williams as our superintendent,” Board of Trustees President Brad Cravens said. “When we hired him in 2007, just as the bond election for the high school passed, we knew we had found an exceptional leader. However, over the years, under his leadership and vision, SISD has grown and improved in ways we never thought possible. SISD is a leader in the state in every way.”

At the start of his superintendency in 2007, SISD was home to 570 students in grades K-8 on two campuses. Since that time, Mr. Williams and the Board of Trustees unified a divided community and successfully passed four subsequent bond packages and a Tax Ratification Election. He then managed the construction of new campuses, athletic facilities and a much-needed, competition-level auditorium.

Mr. Williams has also advocated for school finance reform and for local accountability for school districts. The core of Mr. Williams’ belief as an educator centers around doing what’s best for students.

“Mr. Williams’ passion for quality education transcends all decisions,” Assistant Superintendent Dr. Christi Morgan said. “He listens and seeks to understand the needs of students as we engage, equip, and empower future-ready learners in Sunnyvale and across the state.”
