Renovations at two elementary campuses are scheduled to begin in May as part of a North Texas district’s nearly $1 billion bond package.
The largest of the Arlington ISD projects is at Miller Elementary School, where a new gym will also be used as a storm shelter, according to a state filing. The existing gym will be retrofitted into pre-K classrooms. At Little Elementary School, sign installation and landscaping work are planned, and a curb ramp will be added. The project includes replacing the kitchen ceiling and repairing window leaks.
At Miller, the estimated construction cost is $6.5 million, and that figure for the work at Little is $1.5 million. Both projects are set for delivery in January 2026.
Voters in November 2019 approved a $966 million bond to fund construction, renovation, and improvements across the district through 2024. Miller Elementary School and Little Elementary School are both part of phase three of the five-year, five-phase project. Other elements of the bond program include:
- Rebuilding four aging campuses
- Renovations for full-day pre-K classrooms
- Fine arts and dual-language academies for junior high and high schools
- New playgrounds and shade structures for each elementary school
- Renovations to create a third athletic field at Martin High School and improvements at Wilemon and Cravens fields
- Improvements at athletics facilities and fine arts spaces at secondary schools
- Uniforms, instruments, and equipment for fine arts programs
- New school buses and service vehicles
- More security cameras and upgrades to security, safety, and communications systems
- Technology upgrades for network infrastructure and devices for students and staff.
Arlington ISD’s student enrollment is about 60,000 at 76 campuses.
