Things got heated last weekend when a Purdue University Northwest professor allegedly barged into the first meeting of the school’s new Turning Point USA chapter and started lecturing the students on how they were promoting racism and trying to rewrite history.
A video posted on November 17 by TPUSA Frontlines shows the professor storming to the front of the room, saying, “You have a situation here where you want to go into classrooms. You want to tell faculty that they’re not allowed to speak the truth about the history of this country. You want them to be – uh, what’s the word for slaves now – involuntary workers.”
A Turning Point-affiliated student can be heard replying, “We’re not wanting to impose on the teachers, we’re wanting this to be within the students,” before the professor cuts them off and accuses them of trying to “decide what history is.”
The professor reportedly went on to label both the national organization and the brand-new campus chapter as racist before walking out.
The clip, now approaching a million views on a collection of different social media platforms, ends with a student telling the professor, “No – we know what history is, actually. Did you know all of our Founding Fathers were Christian, and this country was formed on Christian values?”
Turning Point USA, co-founded by Charlie Kirk, now has chapters on more than 3,000 campuses and focuses on topics like free speech, limited government, and individual liberty. The Purdue NW chapter was officially approved earlier this fall.
University officials have not publicly named the professor, and have not responded to an inquiry for comment as of press time.
