Local school district officials announced Tuesday morning that someone reported a student with a gun on a middle school campus, but authorities discovered that the offending student was in possession of a BB gun instead.
The report came in at 9:05 a.m. at Lucyle Collins Middle School in Fort Worth.
Lake Worth Independent School District officials took to Facebook and provided a blow-by-blow account of the incident:
“Students reinforced the ‘see something-say something’ and reported this to the LCMS administration. The school resource officer and administration immediately responded by locating the backpack in question and did, in fact, find a BB gun at 9:10 a.m. and had the student in the office at 9:11 a.m.”
The district posted its announcement at 9:44 a.m. and claimed that all students and staff at the school were safe and that there was no further threat at the campus.
Local law enforcement and school officials are investigating the matter further, according to the district.
In the comment section of the district’s Facebook post, Tabitha Larkins, presumably a parent of a student attending Lucyle Collins Middle School, claimed that her child had been shot with the BB gun during a morning passing period.
“Check with your kids to see if they got hit because during passing. My child was hit BB gun or not the kid definitely pulled it out and was shooting it during passing,” wrote Larkins.
She later noted that her child was fine aside from a few welts.
As reported in The Dallas Express, several public schools in Texas received threats or reports of on-campus shootings on Tuesday.
There were reports of active shooters at Lincoln High School in Dallas, Waco High School in Waco, Connally High School in Pflugerville, and Heights High School in Houston.
Additionally, social media threats were allegedly made against a Fort Worth school.
All of the reports proved unfounded.
