The Fort Worth Independent School District Board of Education is asking for the public’s input on a new superintendent as the district seeks its next leader.

The district shared an online survey so that the public can state the characteristics they want in a new superintendent.

Fort Worth ISD is inviting parents, students, employees, partners, civic groups, religious leaders, and other district stakeholders to share their opinions via the survey.

“Take this short survey indicating what characteristics you value in the District’s next leader,” the district wrote in a release introducing the concept.

“We want the participation of every person who supports and cares about our students and who have partnered with us to improve academic outcomes for all. This is an opportunity to make your voice heard and we are eager to listen,” said Fort Worth ISD Board President Tobi Jackson.

This move comes as Dr. Kent Scribner plans to step down in 2024. As previously reported by The Dallas Express Scribner announced his retirement to the board in December 2021, giving the district ample time to find a replacement.

Scribner, who became the superintendent in 2015, said in December that he had no plans to seek an extension after his existing contract ends in August 2024.

On April 12, the district’s Board of Education selected Hazard, Young, Attea (HYA) Associates to help find a new superintendent. The board also hopes that the input derived from the survey will help select a suitable replacement for Scribner.

The survey is open for input until May 27, when it closes.

As part of the transition process, the district will hold a series of community input sessions starting May 16. Those interested can learn more about the events during the Virtual Community Engagement Meeting on May 26 at 6 p.m.
