Allegations made against a school board president who was arrested Wednesday for alleged indecency with a child may have been prompted by the church where he served as an executive pastor.

The Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (AFMBC), located in City Councilman Tennell Atkins’ District 8 in South Dallas, said it notified the Dallas Police Department after they became aware of the allegations against Andrew Wilborn, board president of Prosper Independent School District (ISD), dating back to April 2022.

“Drew Wilborn is no longer an employee of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church,” a statement released to The Dallas Express reads. “When we learned about the allegations regarding Drew in April 2022, we immediately notified the Dallas Police Department, placed him on leave and suspended his responsibilities on our church campus during the ongoing formal police investigation. Since that time, the decision was made to terminate Wilborn from his role with Antioch Church.”

As of Thursday, Wilborn was still listed on the Prosper ISD website as the board president.

Prosper ISD spoke about the allegations against the school board president in a statement to NBC 5 Wednesday, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The Dallas Express reached out for comment from Prosper ISD to determine whether the board president was facing any internal investigation, but calls were not returned by press time.

According to the statement released by AFMBC, staff and volunteers go through “rigorous screenings” which include background checks and mandatory training in order to maintain a safe environment.

“We condemn abuse in any form and are profoundly committed to the safety and welfare of our entire church community,” the statement reads, saying its prayers were with all involved.

The Dallas Police Department told The Dallas Express Thursday that this was part of an ongoing investigation and that there were no updates at this time.

DPD asks that anyone with any information on the case, including any other possible offenses involving the suspect, should contact Detective R. Jones #10542 with the DPD Child Exploitation Unit at 214-671-4331 or email: [email protected].
