A 40-year-old teacher at Jerry & Linda Moore Middle School in Celina was arrested on Thursday after arriving at work intoxicated, police said.
Officers responded to the campus after staff reported that Jainya Walder appeared impaired. Walder, a sixth-grade English language arts and reading teacher, was questioned and taken into custody, according to police. She was booked into the Collin County jail and charged with endangerment of a child, a second-degree felony. Her bond was set at $50,000.
Interim Principal Kendric Smith notified parents in a letter that the school resource officer had been alerted and that Walder had been removed from class and placed on administrative leave. Counselors were made available to students the next day.
“My team and I are fully committed to the safety of our students, supporting their well-being, and creating an environment where they can thrive,” Smith wrote, WFAA reported. “Through every challenge, our students have shown what true resilience looks like.”
The arrest marks the second this month at Moore Middle School.
On October 3, former teacher and coach Caleb Elliott was charged with recording student-athletes in the locker room and possessing child pornography. His father, Celina ISD Athletic Director Bill Elliott, and Moore Middle School Principal Allison Ginn have since been placed on paid leave. District families have filed lawsuits.
