A special education teacher at McSpedden Elementary School has been arrested on a felony charge following allegations that she physically assaulted a student, authorities said.

Patricia Kemper, 54, faces a charge of injury to a child, a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. She turned herself in to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office last week after the charges were filed.

Frisco ISD reported the allegations to the Frisco Police Department, which immediately launched a criminal investigation in coordination with the district. The probe led to Kemper’s arrest.

The district placed Kemper on administrative leave and barred her from all Frisco ISD property as soon as the allegations surfaced. Officials said she has not been on campus or around students since that time.

School leaders said they are limited in the information they can release because of the active investigation and personnel confidentiality rules. Counselors and campus administrators are available to support students.
