A former Venus High School teacher has been arrested and accused of an improper relationship with a student, according to police.
Jamie Corder was taken into custody by the Cleburne Police Department on September 3 and booked into the Johnson County jail. He faces a charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student, with bond set at $1 million.
An indictment alleges Corder inappropriately touched a female student at Venus High School in December 2025. According to a Facebook post, he was named the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2025, the same year the alleged offense occurred.
Venus Independent School District said it received an allegation involving an employee and has cooperated with the investigation. The district placed the employee on administrative leave, and the employee is no longer with the district.
The district also said it notified families, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and the State Board for Educator Certification.
Venus ISD did not provide specifics on when it received the allegation, when Corder was removed from the classroom, or when parents and law enforcement were notified. It is also unclear whether investigators believe there may be additional victims.
