The Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (HEB ISD) Board of Trustees has named Joseph Harrington, Ed.D., as the lone finalist in the search for a new superintendent.
Harrington, who currently serves HEB ISD as deputy superintendent for educational operations, was previously the district’s assistant superintendent for secondary administration.
Before joining the district in 2013, Harrington spent 16 years teaching science subjects and coaching student athletes across three different states. He then began serving in assistant principal and principal positions in Grapevine-Colleyville and Northwest ISDs.
Harrington has worked in education for 35 years. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership in 2011 from Nova Southeastern University. Harrington received his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of North Texas and his bachelor’s degree in geology from Buffalo State College.
While responding to the news in a statement released by the district, Harrington said every teacher, student, and supporting employee has a “unique story and pathway to success.”
“HEB ISD is a special place because this community believes we all have a responsibility to enable students to thrive — we truly are better together,” Harrington said.
The board’s decision to name Harrington as lone finalist comes after current superintendent Steve Chapman announced his retirement in December 2021, following 38 years of service in public education.
The school plans to announce Harrington as Chapman’s successor on March 28 following the State of Texas’ required 21-day waiting period.
