The mission of the Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation is to grow the interest and engagement of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by involving them in practical, affordable, and long-lasting robotics engineering programs.
This organization hopes to develop solutions that, in the future, will enable all students to design and innovate as part of a team, regardless of whether they experience failure, persevere, and embrace STEM.
These lifelong learners are emerging confident in their ability to change the world for the better through the set of solutions and events implemented by REC.
In addition to hosting and supporting competitions for some of the world’s leading robotics platforms and organizations, including VEX, TSA, and BEST Robotics, the foundation also provides support for programs and workshops focused on technology and professional development for educators.
The 2021 Bell Vertical Robotics Competition Earthquake Search & Rescue Challenge Championship was held in Austin, Arlington, and Fort Worth, Texas, from November 6 to December 4, 2021. Nine teams of High School students from around the country were part of the event, and three teams were recognized as champions at the event.
The Robowranglers from Greenville High School in Greenville, Texas, and the RoboChargers from Conrad High School in Dallas, Texas, earned respectively first and second prize in the competition. The RoboDawgs from Grandville High School in Grandville, Michigan, was the third team to earn a prize.
CEO of the REC Foundation, Dan Mantz, explained: “Congratulations to the winners and all students who participated. Your drones and teamwork exemplify creative and strategic problem-solving in this competition’s fast-paced challenge.
We are very excited to have collaborated with Bell to host this event. The Bell VRC program provides the opportunity for young innovators to learn the skills to help solve real-world issues using vertical robots.”
