Dallas ISD will provide free meals to students during Thanksgiving break, with families able to pick up three days’ worth of food for breakfast and lunch on Monday.
The district’s Food and Child Nutrition Services announced the program aims to ensure no child goes hungry during the holiday break.
Families can visit select locations on November 24 to collect meals for children 18 and under. The program also covers individuals with disabilities up to age 21.
The meals are designed for easy home preparation and can be heated at the individual’s convenience. Children must be present in the vehicle during pickup to receive the food packages.
The district has posted pickup times and locations on its website, along with cooking instructions for the take-home meals. Parents can find tips for preparing food safely at home.
This initiative continues Dallas ISD’s efforts to address food insecurity among students when school cafeterias are closed.
Participating donors include the Dallas Education Foundation, Corgan, the American Heart Association, Toyota, and Atmos Energy.
