Dallas ISD has hit a historic milestone with over 8,500 students enrolled in early college and career programs for the 2024-2025 school year.

The district’s Pathways and Technology (P-TECH) and Early College High School programs now span 26 campuses, providing students with the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. These programs promise to save students two years of college time and tuition costs. They’re designed for students of all academic backgrounds, not just top performers.

“Our students gain the confidence to be successful. Even if they don’t have straight A’s. Everyone across Dallas ISD has access to this program, and that is something I am most proud of,” said Tristan Lysowski, executive director of P-TECH and early college programs.

The programs create tight-knit learning communities. Students stay with the same cohort throughout their four years.

“It’s a memorable experience because throughout the year, you are grouped with the same people. You become very familiar with everyone, and it’s almost like a family,” said Stephanie G., a recent Dallas ISD graduate and P-TECH student. “You get to see everyone grow from ninth to 12th, and being put together helps you get to know one another.”

Students can choose from various career pathways, including criminal justice, engineering, and healthcare. Dallas ISD also offers a unique teacher education pathway for those interested in becoming educators.

The programs don’t require students to sacrifice traditional high school experiences. Participants can still play sports and join clubs while earning college credits.

Program leaders say success requires only determination, support, and willingness to try something new. Applications for next year’s programs are currently available through the district.
