Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that Dallas College has received a $468,309 grant award for a workforce development initiative with Gainwell Technologies.

Dallas College will use the taxpayer funds to train over 240 new and current employees from Gainwell “to increase their skills across IT systems, increase efficiency in the delivery of products, and prepare employees to replace retiring workers,” according to a press release.

Gainwell claims to be “the leading provider of digital and cloud-enabled solutions vital to the administration and operations of health and human services programs,” offering clients “scalable and flexible solutions for their most complex challenges.”

Based in Irving, the corporation has an estimated yearly revenue of $1.6 billion, which equals roughly $215,611 of revenue per each of its 7,296 employees, according to market analysis organization Growjo.

Texas spends “over $110 billion in taxpayer-funded education-to-workforce systems,” according to a recent report by Texas 2036.

The grant comes from the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) Skills Development Fund, which provides “site-specific, customized training opportunities for Texas businesses and their employees to increase skill levels and wages of the Texas workforce.”

“The Skills Development Fund supports Texas employers by upskilling current employees and helping create new high-paying, in-demand jobs,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel regarding the grant to Dallas College, per the press release.

“These TWC grants provided training for more than 30,000 workers in Texas in the past three years, strengthening the state’s workforce,” he added.

Abbott similarly said, “The State of Texas continues to invest in our highly skilled, diverse workforce to support critical industries in our state’s booming economy.”

“With this job training grant, Dallas College will train hundreds of new and current health and human services professionals to help deliver the best healthcare for Texans,” he continued. “I thank the Texas Workforce Commission and Dallas College, in partnership with Gainwell Technologies, for their work to expand opportunities for hardworking Texans and to meet the needs of our state’s growing economy.”

The business environment in Texas has been flourishing, and Gov. Abbott recently called the state the “headquarters of headquarters” for being home to more Fortune 500 HQs than any other state, as reported by The Dallas Express.
