Van Alstyne ISD is expected to start construction of one of two new elementary schools next year as part of a $325 million bond package.
“Van Alstyne Elementary School #3” is projected to cost more than $37.3 million, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. It has a listed start date of May and an anticipated delivery date of June 2025.
In May 2021, voters approved Proposition A to fund that project and several others, including the construction of a fourth elementary school and new high school, “classroom additions to the current high school, land purchase for a future middle school, and renovations to the current buildings.”
Phase 1 consists of building the high school, storm shelter, career tech building, and band and athletic expansions. The construction of the third and fourth elementary schools is part of Phase 2 of the bond package, which also includes increasing capacity at the current high school — Van Alstyne — the new high school and land acquisition for a new middle school.
The new high school is scheduled to open next summer.
The district’s other campuses include John and Nelda Partin Elementary School, Bob and Lola Sanford Elementary School, and Van Alstyne Middle School. An “A”-rated district by the Texas Education Agency, Van Alstyne’s student population is about 2,400.
According to projections, however, that number is expected to rise to more than 3,700 by 2028, prompting district officials to increase capacity at new and expanded campuses to accommodate growth.
WRA Architects of Dallas is listed on the state filing as the design firm for the 83,000-square-foot elementary school. The company also designed Van Alstyne’s new high school.
