(Texas Scorecard) – A newly certified teacher’s aide in Conroe Independent School District is facing a charge of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.
Conroe ISD police arrested KeSean DaVante Carter, 24, on September 20 after an investigation initiated and led by the district police department.
Carter was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and is being held on a $150,000 bond.
According to a notice sent Friday to parents from Principal Shawn Almond, Carter began working as an instructional paraprofessional at Oak Ridge High School on August 21—the same day he became certified as an educational aide.
Carter worked as a substitute for the district during the last school year, from January through May 2024.
Almond stated that Carter was suspended on September 16 and fired on September 18.
“I want to assure you that Oak Ridge High School and Conroe ISD are committed to providing a safe learning environment for your children,” wrote Almond. “The alleged actions of this individual do not reflect the professionalism and care exhibited by War Eagle staff who strive to provide our students with a quality education.”
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Conroe ISD Police Department at 936-709-8911.
Dozens of Texas teachers and school staff are charged each year with sex crimes involving students and other children.
