(Texas Scorecard) – Club for Growth is launching a new six-figure ad campaign in Texas to rally support for school choice.
The ad, titled “Agree,” is set to begin airing statewide this week and will run through the end of March. It highlights polling that shows broad public support for Education Savings Accounts, which would provide up to $10,000 per student to help families choose the best educational option for their children.
“These days, it’s darn near impossible getting everyone to agree on anything,” the ad states. “But on education freedom—from big cities to small towns, white, black, or brown, moms and dads, Rs and Ds—Texans of all stripes support education savings accounts.”
The effort is part of a nearly $1 million push from Club for Growth to advance educational freedom in Texas, which also includes radio ads in the Austin market.
The organization has been heavily involved in last year’s Primary Elections, spending $8.5 million to unseat 10 incumbent Republicans in the Texas House who opposed school choice policies.
Outside of Texas, Club for Growth is running similar six-figure campaigns in Missouri, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. The group has also successfully advocated for school choice legislation in Idaho, Tennessee, and Wyoming.
The ad encourages Texas lawmakers to “pass House Bill 3”, referring to proposed school choice legislation that has been a flashpoint in the Texas Legislature.
HB 3 was heard in the House Public Education Committee last week but has not yet received a vote. Gov. Greg Abbott has made school choice one of his emergency priorities for the legislature. The Senate, meanwhile, has already passed similar legislation in early February.
