BASIS Ed plans to build a charter school in Plano next year, making it the organization’s second campus in North Texas.
A BASIS Ed representative did not return a message seeking comment on the project by press time, but a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing indicates the estimated $20.3 million project includes renovations of a 90,872-square-foot building and construction of a 16,040-square-foot storm shelter adjacent to it. The address listed on the filing is 4501 Hedgcoxe Rd. — the site of Plano’s LifePoint Church campus.
BASIS Ed Texas charter schools offer open enrollment and free tuition for students in grades kindergarten through 12. Using a “cutting-edge BASIS Curriculum,” the organization builds a network of schools that produce graduates who enter “top-tier colleges and universities,” according to its website.
“With broad plans for future campuses throughout Texas, we are growing more and more with each new day! We currently have five school locations in the metro San Antonio area, three in the greater Austin area, and our one campus in the Metro Fort Worth area!”
Its only campus in Dallas-Fort Worth is in Benbrook. According to the state filing, construction of the Plano school is scheduled to begin in June and has an estimated delivery date of July 2025. BASIS expects to open for classes the following month, according to its website. A LifePoint representative did not return a message seeking comment by press time about how the church is involved — if at all — in the project.
Dallas-based Grace Hebert Curtis Architects is listed as the design firm on the filing.
