Sol-Ark, a North Texas–based manufacturer of solar inverters and energy storage systems founded in 2013, has faced questions about the reliability of its products in larger installations and a pattern of complaints but has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
The Allen-based company designs hybrid inverters that connect solar panels, battery storage, and the electric grid. Its systems are marketed to homeowners, businesses, and off-grid users seeking backup power and energy independence. Sol-Ark has expanded rapidly in recent years and touts awards for innovation and leadership.
A source who contacted The Dallas Express alleged that a large-scale Sol-Ark installation in East Texas failed to perform as promised, resulting in an estimated financial loss of about $100,000. DX reached out to Sol-Ark CEO Tom Brennan with detailed questions about product performance in larger installations, reports of financial losses tied to failed systems, and the frequency of complaints about product reliability.
Brennan and Sol-Ark did not respond by press time.
DX also reviewed publicly available records and online discussions that echoed similar concerns. On DIY Solar Forum, users described issues with the Sol-Ark 15K inverter, including startup faults and firmware-related bugs. Posts on the EG4 Electronics Forum noted recurring “F20” fault codes when pairing Sol-Ark equipment with certain batteries, while BBB filings included disputes over warranty support and responsiveness. Reddit users reported mixed experiences, with some citing reliability problems alongside positive feedback from others.
The Dallas Express will update this story if Sol-Ark provides a statement.
