Blaze News reports that its investigation has identified a possible match to the individual who planted pipe bombs near the Democratic National Committee and the Capitol Hill Club on the night of January 5, 2021.
According to reporters Steve Baker and Joseph M. Hanneman, gait-analysis software found a 94 percent match between the suspect’s walk and that of former U.S. Capitol Police officer Shauni Rae Kerkhoff, with an analyst estimating the similarity as high as 98 percent. Blaze News said Kerkhoff left the Capitol Police in 2021 and later worked on a security detail connected to the intelligence community.
The FBI has not confirmed any identification or arrests and continues to offer a $500,000 reward for information about the case. Officials say two viable explosive devices were planted between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. that night.
A January 2025 congressional report led by Reps. Barry Loudermilk and Thomas Massie highlighted ongoing investigative and security failures, noting that the case remains unsolved nearly four years later.
The Dallas Express has not independently verified the Blaze News findings.
