In partnership with federal agencies in southeast Dallas, officials announced a Dallas Police Department operation, Operation Pegasus, resulted in the arrest of forty-seven personnel and the seizure of over one hundred guns and $1.8 million in cash.
Dallas police held a news conference on Thursday morning with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Prerak Shah, to announce the results of Operation Pegasus.
Officials stated that this operation was focused on suppressing gun violence in the Pleasant Grove area of southeast Dallas. According to the Dallas police chief, Eddie Garcia, and Shah, data received from federal officials led authorities to focus their efforts on that particular area of the city.
“The southeast Dallas Pleasant Grove area has experienced a high concentration of violent crimes. Therefore, narrowing in on this area makes [the] most impact in the short 90-day operation period,” Garcia said.
Jeffrey Boshek of the ATF’s Dallas Division said Operation Pegasus involved 117 undercover operations in ninety days. They seized over one hundred guns, large amounts of drugs, and $1.8 million in cash found in a trash bag for those ninety days.
“This was something like off TV… that’s a significant hit to the narcotics trafficking and the armed narcotics traffickers affecting our streets down there,” Boshek said.
The operation was carried out by the Dallas Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and ATF members.
