After Dallas ISD’s massive data breach, some students’ information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, grades, date of births, custody status, and even medical conditions may have been exposed. Hence, the district has arranged for current and former Dallas ISD students and parents to sign up for free credit monitoring and identity protection.
The school district also warns former Dallas ISD students from as far back as 2010 to sign up for the protection program as similar information might have been compromised.
Information of some current and former school employees and contractors, including addresses, Social Security numbers, and salary information, may also have been exposed in the breach.
Explaining how the incident happened, the district said in a statement posted online, “An unauthorized third party accessed the district’s network, downloaded data, and temporarily stored it on an encrypted cloud storage site. The data have since been removed from the site.”
“To date, our cybersecurity experts have found no evidence indicating the data was otherwise accessed, disseminated, or sold,” the district said.
