Dallas ISD Considers End to Mask Mandate

The Dallas Independent School District is currently contemplating putting an end to its facemask mandate.

The school district is one of many in Texas that are defying Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order that bans public schools from requiring face masks on campuses.    

Dallas ISD Superintendent, Dr. Michael Hinojosa, told FOX 4 that the district is close to ending its mask mandate in an interview.    

Hinojosa revealed that the district could still recommend wearing masks, but it will not be required or enforced because its numbers (COVID-19 infection rate) have been good.     

Hinojosa said the district wants to make the right decision in regards to its mask mandate.    

“We don’t do it too early and create some other issues, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, certainly not a freight train,” Hinojosa said. “It’s just a matter of do we do it after Thanksgiving, do we do it after Christmas?”   

Dallas ISD is offering Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines to students ages 5-11 at six grade schools across the district starting Monday, November 8th.
