Council Member Adam Bazaldua of District 7 received the lowest marks from his constituents out of all 14 Dallas City Council members in the latest iteration of the Dallas Derby.
The Dallas Express‘ Dallas Derby is a feature that centers on monthly “Rate Your Council Member” surveys. Each month, survey respondents can rate how effective their council district leader has been in terms of crime reduction, homelessness reduction, aggressive panhandling reduction, litter reduction & city cleanliness, street repairs & maintenance, and park maintenance & cleanliness. The lowest possible score is 0, and the highest is 10 for each category.
In the last survey, Bazaldua managed to average 0.6, bringing his year-to-date average down to 2 out of 10.
Taking a deeper look at his metrics for the month, it appears that survey respondents living in District 7 felt Bazaldua did next to nothing to reduce crime in July. His performance resulted in his being awarded a 0 for that category in the survey.
Bazaldua’s constituents gave him a 0.3 in the categories of homelessness reduction, aggressive panhandling reduction, and city cleanliness. When it came to street repair & maintenance, Bazaldua earned a 0.8.
The highest score the District 7 council member received was a 2 out of 10 for the category of park maintenance & cleanliness.
Looking at other City leaders in the rankings, Mayor Eric Johnson earned a 4.8 on average, logging a year-to-date average of 5.0. Interim City Manager Kimberly Tolbert received a 2.5. Her year-to-date score, which includes the ratings given to former City Manager T.C. Broadnax, is now 1.9.
The winner of the Dallas Derby for this particular survey was Council Member Cara Mendelsohn (District 12), who has earned the highest scores every month since the feature was launched, as previously reported by DX.
DX reached out to Council Member Bazaldua for comment regarding his performance in the survey but did not hear back by publication.
