Council Member Adam Bazaldua of District 7 came in dead last in The Dallas Express’ inaugural Dallas Derby.

Residents in the district registered their lack of enthusiasm with the council member in DX’s January “Rate Your Council Member” survey, resulting in his ranking as the least effective Dallas City Council member last month.

Respondents to January’s survey were asked to rate their council members on a scale of 0-10 based on their performance in crime reduction, homelessness reduction, aggressive panhandling reduction, litter reduction and city cleanliness, street repairs and maintenance, and park maintenance and park cleanliness. Bazaldua earned an overall score of 1.2 out of 10, the lowest among Dallas’ 14 council members.

The council member’s lowest scores were for his efforts in homelessness reduction and aggressive panhandling reduction. He averaged a zero on both fronts. He also received extremely low marks for what he has done — or not done, rather — to improve city cleanliness, for which he averaged a 0.3 out of 10.

When it came to street repair and maintenance, Bazaldua earned a 1 out of 10 on average. He did a little better in crime reduction, though, earning a 1.5. The highest marks the council member received were for park maintenance and cleanliness, with residents in his district giving him a 4.3 on average.

DX reached out to Council Member Bazaldua for comment but did not receive a response by press time.

Respondents to January’s “Rate Your Council Member” survey were also asked to rate Mayor Eric Johnson and City Manager T.C. Broadnax on their performance on the issues noted above. Johnson earned an average score of 5.1. Broadnax earned a 1.9.

As previously reported by DX, Broadnax announced last week that he would be stepping down in early June after several years of inefficiencies, high-profile blunders, and distractions from core City services.
