At Dallas’ Love Field Airport on Monday, a woman allegedly fired multiple bullets into the air before being shot by police and taken into custody, according to Dallas Police.
Around 11 a.m. on July 25, 37-year-old Portia Odufuwa was dropped off at the airport and proceeded toward the ticket counters. She reportedly entered the restroom, put on a hoodie, and came out shooting, targeting the ceiling, according to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia.
Officers confronted the Odufuwa inside the airport, shooting her in the lower extremities. She was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital; her condition is unknown.
No other injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration implemented an airport ground halt around 11:11 a.m. due to safety concerns.
As the incident occurred, some passengers took to social media to capture the moment and give accounts of their experiences. In a video posted to Twitter by Johnny Mojica, people can be seen looking around and ducking for cover.
In another video posted by Michael Loewinsohn, individuals were seen waiting outside the airport, sitting on the ground. “We are now outside in between the building and the tarmac, and we’re told there was a shooter, and we are going to need to stay outside for a bit,” tweeted Loewinsohn.
Rockwall Police Chief Max Geron was also at the airport during the incident. “Just got evacuated out of Love Field after an apparent shooting,” he tweeted. “Family is safe.TSA did a great job.”
An investigation is ongoing to determine a motive for the shooting.
