On the evening of June 2, a woman was killed when she and her husband fired shots at each other in Fort Worth.
The man reported the incident, saying that he and his wife had shot each other at their home in the 4600 block of Wheatland Drive in northwest Fort Worth, according to a police report.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the couple were married.
A homicide investigation remains ongoing.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to identify the 39-year-old woman, who was unresponsive and appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds.
She was later pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. No other details about the incident were made available.
More people were killed by another person in Fort Worth in 2021 than in any year since 1994.
In 2020, 115 individuals were killed in Fort Worth. In 2019, there were 71 homicides. In 2020, the city saw the highest homicide toll in a year since 1995, when 108 people were killed.
Killings in the U.S. in 2020 increased almost 30% over the prior year, the most significant one-year rise since the FBI began keeping records.
