Two people were fatally shot Thursday afternoon in Dallas before the suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in nearby Mesquite, authorities reported.
The double homicide marks another violent incident in Dallas as the year draws to a close, with the suspect’s death preventing any prosecution.
Officers responded to a shooting call around 2:40 p.m. in the 15800 block of El Estado Drive. They found 24-year-old Arlina Sander and 27-year-old Darvilease Washington with gunshot wounds.
Sander died at the scene. Washington was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Detectives quickly identified a possible suspect and located the suspect’s vehicle, which was registered in Mesquite. While preparing an arrest warrant, investigators learned of another shooting in that city.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity or any connection to the victims. The motive remains under investigation.
