On Tuesday, the Collin County Fire Marshal’s Office announced that two adolescents had been detained in connection to a fire that burned many homes under construction in a McKinney neighborhood.
The teens, whose identities were withheld due to their age, are accused of felony criminal mischief for their roles in the blaze after the fire marshal’s office conducted an investigation.
As reported by The Dallas Express, the fire started around 7:30 p.m. on June 25 in the northwest region of McKinney, close to County Roads 123 and 161.
Seven vacant homes received major damage from the fires or were completely destroyed, while one occupied residence experienced brief flames, according to the McKinney Fire Department. There were no injuries reported.
The suspects were eventually located due to the efforts of Collin County Fire Marshal investigators, Collin County Sheriff’s Office, and special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The fire marshal did not disclose information regarding how authorities linked the teenagers to the incident. No additional details were provided.
