The man suspected of killing a woman and shooting a teenage girl inside a Dallas apartment early on Thursday is dead, according to Dallas police.

Officers were called to a shooting incident in the 12100 block of Audelia Road in northeast Dallas around 12:40 a.m. on July 14. They discovered a 14-year-old girl and her mother, 33-year-old Karla Castillo, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Castillo died after being transported to a nearby hospital. The teen was reportedly hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The gunman, 44-year-old Jorge Sadenos Escobar Flores, had apparently barricaded himself inside one of the apartments after shooting Castillo and her daughter, according to police.

SWAT entered the apartment after detectives secured a search warrant around 7 a.m. They discovered Flores dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Castillo’s brother, Juan Castillo, claims his sister planned to leave Flores, which resulted in a fight that ended in a double-murder suicide.

Karla Castillo was home with her three children at the time of the shooting. The other two children managed to escape without injury.
