Two Dallas police officers were arrested on separate misdemeanor charges, prompting internal investigations by the department.

Officer Scott Simpson, a five-year veteran assigned to the Central Patrol Division, turned himself in on September 4 to Dallas County authorities. He faces charges of unauthorized release of body camera recordings, a Class A misdemeanor.

Simpson, badge #11830, joined the force in September 2019. The department immediately placed him on administrative leave pending investigation.

A day later, on September 5, Officer Cesar Rangel surrendered to Denton County Sheriff’s deputies on domestic violence charges. The three-year officer faces assault – family violence charges, a Class A misdemeanor, from the neighboring Elm Ridge Police Department.

Rangel, #12461, has served in the Northeast Patrol Division since September 2022. He also received administrative leave status while investigators examine the allegations.

Neither officer’s prior disciplinary history was immediately available.
