A tragic incident unfolded at a Frisco ISD track meet on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old student.
The altercation occurred around 10 a.m. in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane, according to Frisco police. A fight between two students escalated, leading one student to stab the other.
Emergency responders, including officers and firefighters, arrived promptly at the scene. Despite immediate medical intervention, including CPR and blood transfusions, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony from Frisco, has been taken into custody. Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Anthony is facing a murder charge, though no bond has been set at this time.
The victim, identified as 16-year-old Austin Metcalf, was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Austin Metcalf, a junior at Frisco’s Memorial High School, was involved in track and played football.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school’s principal announced that Metcalf’s passing will be acknowledged during the second period on Thursday.
School and district counselors will be on hand to support students throughout the day. Parents are advised to discuss the incident with their children before they attend school.
The high school track meet, part of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 11-5A championship, was suspended, and students were sent back to their respective campuses.
