Police said six people were injured Wednesday in a Southeast Dallas shooting in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood.

The armed attack occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center around 5 p.m. on the 9500 block of Scyene Road near its intersection with St. Augustine Road.

The victims’ names have not yet been released. However, the Dallas Police Department said they were all males and provided their ages: 17, 20, 22, 28, 37, and 55.

The victims were hospitalized, one in critical condition. The rest were in stable condition.

Police said the suspects were three black men driving a white vehicle, but no arrests have been made yet.

The shooting occurred in the city council district belonging to Adam Bazaldua (District 7). It is just one more example of Dallas’ severe crime problem, which the city council has yet to tackle seriously, even as murders continue to affect communities of color, like Pleasant Grove, disproportionately.

Rev. Ronald Wright, a Pleasant Grove community activist and former member of the Dallas Police Oversight Board, spoke with NBC 5 on Thursday about the matter.

“The police can’t do their job if we don’t open our mouth and say anything, especially here on this corner,” he said.

He told NBC 5 that businesses at the shopping center catered to “suspicious characters” and that businesses share a responsibility with community members to keep everyone safe.

“The community needs to wake up and hold our council members accountable, so we can hold our law enforcement accountable, but also hold our businesses accountable,” Wright continued.

Anyone who can provide police information on Wednesday’s shooting is urged to contact Detective Barger by calling 214-671-4264 or emailing [email protected].

In addition, Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $5,000 for any information leading to the arrest and indictment of suspects involved in felony offenses such as this one.
