A series of federal immigration enforcement cases in Texas this week spotlighted alleged vehicle assaults on agents, burglary arrests tied to immigration status, and a repeat illegal reentry sentence, as officials framed the actions as part of broader crackdowns.

Federal prosecutors in North Texas announced indictments against a Honduran man accused of ramming immigration vehicles and injuring agents during a December traffic stop.

Additionally, Border Patrol leadership highlighted the arrest of two illegal aliens from Uzbekistan for an alleged home burglary without releasing further details.

Separately, an illegal alien from Mexico with prior removals was sentenced in South Texas for illegally reentering the country for a fifth time, according to court records and Justice Department statements.

1. North Texas ICE assault indictment

Immigration and Customs Enforcement posted on X on January 14 that “a criminal illegal alien tried to run over our officer — smashing vehicles and leaving one officer injured and sent to the hospital,” blaming what it called “dangerous anti-ICE rhetoric” for similar incidents.

The post included a video:

A federal indictment unsealed January 14 alleged Jerson Lopez-Sanchez, 28, an illegal alien from Honduras, assaulted federal immigration agents during a traffic stop on December 1 in Lewisville, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.

Prosecutors allege Lopez-Sanchez reversed a Chevrolet Silverado into an agent’s vehicle while an agent had a leg outside, then fled and later rammed another law enforcement vehicle, injuring two agents inside.

The Justice Department said agents were wearing clearly marked vests and badges and had activated emergency lights during the pursuit, which lasted about 10 minutes before occupants fled on foot.

Lopez-Sanchez remains at large, as of the time of publication.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison on each of three assault counts.

2. Border Patrol burglary arrests

Jared C. Ashby, chief patrol agent for the Rio Grande Valley sector, posted on X on January 14 that “Two Uzbekistani nationals in the U.S. illegally arrested for burglary of habitation,” adding, “They didn’t just break immigration law, they broke into an American home.”

Ashby said the men were in Border Patrol custody and being removed, and urged people without legal status to leave using a federal app.

The post did not identify the men, the location of the alleged burglary, or whether charges had been filed, and no supporting court documents were released.

In June 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced indictments against two Uzbek men accused of conspiring to smuggle illegal aliens into the United States for financial gain, emphasizing that those charges were accusations and that defendants are presumed innocent.

3. Repeat illegal reentry sentence

In South Texas, a federal judge sentenced Jose de Jesus Galicia-Castillo, 36, an illegal alien from Mexico, to 42 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States, according to a January 14 press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

Prosecutors said Galicia-Castillo had been removed previously in 2008 and had several prior convictions for illegal reentry. Authorities said he was discovered again near Falfurrias on July 25, 2025, without authorization to be in the country. After serving his sentence, he is expected to face removal proceedings.

The press release said the case was part of a Justice Department initiative focused on immigration enforcement and transnational crime.
