A Texas mother has been arrested after allegedly leaving her 16-month-old son home alone overnight while she traveled 150 miles to meet a man from the Hinge dating app.
Reese Louise Myers, 25, from Killeen, was charged with abandoning or endangering a child after the incident, which occurred on July 28, the New York Post reported
Neighbors alerted authorities when they saw the toddler hanging out of a broken window while a dog attempted to attack him. Upon arrival, officers discovered the child in distress, covered in feces and trapped in the window. The window had been patched with cardboard and plexiglass.
Police found no signs of other adults in the home, only two dogs guarding the baby. After calling Myers, she admitted to being in San Antonio on a date and claimed she had hired a babysitter from Facebook. However, the supposed sitter denied any involvement, revealing she hadn’t cared for the child in nearly a year.
Further investigation uncovered that Myers had a history of leaving her son unsupervised. A former roommate reported witnessing signs of neglect and stated that Myers often left her child overnight.
Myers, who fled to California after the incident, was arrested on a fugitive warrant in November. She was extradited back to Texas and is now facing charges.
The case has sparked outrage, highlighting the dangers of neglect and the responsibilities of parents to ensure the safety of their children.
