A Tarrant County jury in Fort Worth has convicted a Texas man with a history of assaults on his girlfriends, according to the Star-Telegram.
Kenneth Birdo, 36, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for continuous violence against family and strangulation after he was accused of punching and hitting his girlfriends.
Tarrant County criminal court records show Birdo filed a motion for a new trial on Thursday. He had entered a not-guilty plea.
In June, a Tarrant County grand jury indicted Birdo on two offenses, noting that he had been accused of the crimes at least twice in the last year.
In November 2021, Birdo struck and punched one of his girlfriends with his hands, according to court records.
During his second offense, Birdo assaulted another girlfriend on March 20 of this year. The man hit, punched, slapped, pushed, and pulled the woman to the ground with his hands. He strangled her five days later, according to court documents.
Birdo apologized for his behavior in messages to the woman he had battered in March while he was incarcerated, but he also expressed jealousy and suspicion toward her.
Additionally, he sent her messages requesting that she drop the case against him and to inform his mother that the woman would not tell prosecutors about the assaults.
