A suspected burglar died after a homeowner confronted two people breaking into a vehicle early Wednesday morning in Texarkana, Texas, police reported.
Officers responded around 4:20 a.m. to North Park Road, where the homeowner had discovered the suspects attempting to break into the vehicle.
“During the encounter, one of the suspects was shot and later died at the hospital,” Texarkana police said in a Facebook post on December 31.
The second suspect’s condition remains unknown. Police have not clarified who fired the fatal shots.
Investigators continue examining the scene while reviewing details of the deadly confrontation. The Texarkana Police Department has not released the identities of those involved.
Texas law permits homeowners to use force to protect their property under certain circumstances. Local prosecutors will likely review the case to determine whether charges are warranted.
